Iveco SA hosts African Mayors

The City of Tshwane hosted mayoral delegations from African capital cities as they attended the African Cities Sustainability Forum at the CSIR International Convention Centre from the 5th to the 7th of June.

The annual conference provided a platform for over 35 African mayors

The annual conference provided a platform for over 35 mayors, including mayors from Ghana, Uganda, Burundi, Cameroon, Namibia, Zimbabwe and Mauritius among others, to discuss the link between sustainable development, climate change and reducing poverty.

Solly Msimanga, mayor of Tshwane, stated to the media that “The City hosts this event to establish commonalities and challenges faced by major cities in Africa while showcasing and sharing initiatives towards African answers in addressing sustainability.”

As part of the week spent in Pretoria, the mayoral delegates spent time at the Iveco South Africa Works assembly plant in Rosslyn.

African Mayors at the CSIR hosted by IvecoOn behalf of CNH Industrial South Africa and the Iveco brand, the group were welcomed by Conway Maluleka, Government Sales Manager and were taken through an overview of the CNHi brands and the Iveco offering to the market.

The Ambassador of Italy, Pietro Giovanni Donnici, delivered an address to the delegates followed by Solly Msimanga who thanked the African mayors for their attendance and participation. As a gesture of goodwill, the Mayor of Tshwane was presented with an honorary engraved key from Iveco South Africa.

mayoral delegationsIn addition to a tour of the manufacturing facility, the delegates were also shown a range of Iveco solutions that are perfectly suited to municipal applications. These included a fully operational ambulance built on an Iveco Daily panel van, a water tanker on a 682 chassis as well as the 65 seater Afriway. A Eurocargo with various crane attachments, a 19-cubic meter refuse compactor on a Trakker 6×4 chassis and truck tractors from the Trakker and Stralis ranges completed the lineup available for the delegates to touch, feel and enquire further on.

“It was a great honor for us as Iveco South Africa to welcome The City of Tshwane and the accompanying mayors from across Africa to our facility. The visit was a perfect opportunity to showcase our world class production facility and our capacity to provide not only the right products but also the right solutions to the sustainability challenges the continent faces” stated Martin Liebenberg, Head of Sales, Africa Right Hand Drive.
