Chery highlights hybrid innovation at the Festival of Motoring 2025 Chery Chery Chery Company News Electric / Hybrid Vehicle Headlines Local Industry Passenger Vehicles SUV by Tristan Wiggill - August 28, 2025 Chery South Africa is set to showcase the Chery Super Hybrid (CSH) lineup at the Festival of Motoring 2025, running from 29-31 August at the Kyalami Grand Prix Circuit, Johannesburg. The showcase forms part of the automaker’s long-term commitment to electrification in South Africa, with more electrified models set to join the lineup in the coming years. Leading Chery’s hybrid charge is the Tiggo 9 CSH, which combines advanced PHEV technology with class-leading performance and efficiency. Earlier this month, the Tiggo 9 made history as the first vehicle in Africa to undergo a real-world dual-vehicle collision test, reinforcing its world-class safety credentials. Available in two variants, the FWD Pinnacle CSH and the AWD Vanguard CSH, the Tiggo 9 demonstrates exactly what CSH vehicles can do. The FWD Pinnacle CSH features an 18.3 kWh battery, producing a combined 280 kW and 610 N.m of torque, with an all-electric range (AER) of up to 90 km. The AWD Vanguard CSH is equipped with a larger 34.4 kWh battery, delivering 455 kW and 920 N.m, along with an extended AER of 160 km. Both variants provide a total driving range of up to 1,400 km, blending long-distance capability with zero-emission city driving. Fuel efficiency is equally impressive, with consumption as low as 1.5 L/100 km for the Pinnacle and 1.4 L/100 km for the Vanguard. 2025 has been a milestone year for Chery in South Africa,” says Verene Petersen, National Brand and Marketing Manager for Chery South Africa. “We’ve introduced several new hybrids because we want to make electrified motoring accessible to more South Africans, no matter the segment or the price point. Our goal is to ensure local motorists can experience the efficiency, performance, and sustainability benefits of hybrid technology. Alongside the Tiggo 9 CSH, Chery’s hybrid lineup also includes the Tiggo Cross HEV—South Africa’s most affordable hybrid car—as well as the Tiggo 7 CSH and Tiggo 8 CSH plug-in hybrids, both of which provide exceptional value for money in their respective hybrid SUV segments. As plug-in hybrids, the Tiggo 7 and Tiggo 8 CSH offer drivers the best of both worlds: electric power and zero emissions for urban journeys, backed by the long-range confidence of a petrol engine. Both models can travel over 90 km on electric power alone, with a total driving range of up to 1,200 km. The entry-level Tiggo Cross CSH, available from R439,900, offers strong combined outputs of 150 kW and 310 N.m of torque. However, the combined fuel consumption figure of 5.4 L/100 km is more impressive, enabling the compact SUV to travel over 1,000 km on a single tank of fuel. The Festival of Motoring will give South Africans their first chance to experience the entire Chery Super Hybrid lineup in one place, with test drives and showcases running throughout the three-day event at Kyalami Grand Prix Circuit.
