Join us as we count down to a classic motoring experience like no other. The highly anticipated Cape 1000® motor vehicle rally, proudly sponsored by Private Clients by Old Mutual Wealth, returns in 2025 to celebrate the timeless beauty of automotive engineering and design paraded along South Africa’s most beautiful drive - a classic motoring experience not to be missed.
From 16 to 21 March 2025, 65 exotic and rare vehicles will embark on a 1,000-mile (approximately 1,600 km) journey in the prestigious #Cape1000 Grand Touring Regularity Road Rally. With a series of regularity challenges, mountain passes and endurance driving, the rally promises to test both man and machine, offering an unparalleled classic motoring experience for participants and spectators alike.
Before the rally kicks off, the public is invited to the iconic #Cape1000 Show and Shine event on Sunday, 16 March 2025, held at the Cape Town Hotel School in Mouille Point. This free, family-friendly event will showcase an impressive collection of classic cars (that would be vehicles from before 1976), modern classic cars (1977 – 1996), sports cars (1997 to present), Restomod/ recreation cars and perhaps even a supercar or two.
Visitors will have the unique opportunity to get up close to these iconic vehicles and masterpieces between 14:00 and 16:30. Whether you're a lifelong car enthusiast or someone who simply appreciates the beauty of finely crafted vehicles, the Show and Shine is a chance to immerse yourself in the world of motoring passion in an atmosphere buzzing with excitement. The event is held with a 1930’s to 1950’s Vintage theme of style & elegance, spot prizes of Cape 1000® apparel for members of the public who best represent this era.
On Monday, 17 March, participants of the #Cape1000 will then begin their journey and make their way to Hermanus, with stops in Stellenbosch and Gordon’s Bay along the way. Day 1 incudes a race track and a regularity challenge.
On day two, participants will depart Gearing’s Point in Hermanus and enjoy a drive through Montagu on the R318, culminating at the Franschhoek Motor Museum, where a charity auction dinner will be held.
Day three will see them drive across Franschhoek and participate in another regularity challenge. The lunch stop will be in Tulbagh, followed by a drive through the Old Tannery in Wellington.
On the last day, our drivers will return to Cape Town. The journey will take off from La Roche Estate in Franschhoek and pass the Voorstrandt Restaurant in Paternoster. The lunch stop will be at Rocxi Beach in Langebaan, with the rally concluding this exclusive open-road indulgence at the Silo District.
The public are invited to follow #Cape1000 and visit any of the above-mentioned sites to catch a glimpse of the 65 participating collectible vehicles. “It’s not often that you get to see such a wide variety of truly special vehicles in one place, and we are thrilled to share this experience with the public. The best part is that all suggested viewing areas are free to attend,” says Vanessa Crichton, organiser of #Cape1000.
#Cape1000 launched in 2022, with Crichton having been inspired by legendary tribute races from around the world. Jean Minnaar, Managing Director, Private Clients by Old Mutual Wealth stated, “As the key partner of #Cape1000, Private Clients by Old Mutual Wealth is excited to be part of an event that celebrates the thrill of driving and the artistry of automotive design. We are committed to curating moments that inspire, bringing together those who share a passion for precision, performance, and unforgettable experiences.”
