Beyond Showroom: Hyundai Puts Real Cost of Mobility in Focus at Auto Week

With rising fuel prices placing renewed pressure on household budgets, Hyundai Automotive South Africa is using its participation at SA Auto Week 2026 , currently taking place in Durban, to spotlight a consideration that extends well beyond a vehicle’s purchase price: the true cost of ownership.

Exhibiting the newly launched Hyundai CRETA , the company is highlighting the importance of helping consumers make informed decisions that account not only for the excitement of buying a new vehicle but also for the everyday costs of running and maintaining it.

“Buying a vehicle should be about more than the moment the ribbon is removed and celebrations take place when collecting a new vehicle at the dealership. It is a long-term financial commitment and consumers deserve to understand the full picture before making that decision”

said Stanley Anderson, CEO of Hyundai Automotive South Africa.

“Fuel consumption, servicing, warranty cover, reliability and resale value all influence what a vehicle ultimately costs to own. Our responsibility, working with our dealer network, is to help customers look beyond the monthly instalment and make choices that serve their needs and budgets over the long term.”

Fuel Efficiency

The new Hyundai CRETA reflects this approach. Priced from R434,900 for the 1.5 Premium derivative, it offers a compact SUV proposition with a fuel consumption figure of 6.3 litres per 100 kilometres, alongside a seven-year/200,000 km manufacturer’s warranty and a four-year/60,000 km service plan.

Hyundai’s broader model range is designed to serve a diverse market, from first-time buyers and urban commuters to growing families and customers seeking larger, more performance-oriented vehicle. The objective is to match customers with vehicles that meet their practical needs without losing sight of affordability over time.

“Affordability is not simply about finding the lowest purchase price but about understanding what you can comfortably sustain throughout your ownership journey”

added Anderson.

“Through our dealers, we want to encourage better conversations about usage, fuel efficiency, maintenance and long-term value so that customers can choose with confidence.”

Underpinned by Hyundai Motor Company’s global focus on quality, performance, reliability and fuel efficiency, Hyundai is engaging with government, automotive industry leaders and prospective customers on the challenges and opportunities shaping South Africa’s mobility future.
