PRETORIA – Mercedes-Benz South Africa launched its FleetBoard complimentary driver training initiative for October Transport Month 2016 at an event attended by the media, representatives from Corridor Empowerment Project, (a partner in MBSA’s Trucking Wellness project) and Aspen Logistics, one of the manufacturer’s key customers.

Transport Month, with the theme “Together We Move South Africa Forward” kicks off officially tomorrow on the 1st of October. As an initiative from the Department of Transport, the month is used to raise awareness on the importance of transport to the local economy, including the provision of a safe and more affordable, accessible and reliable transport system in the country and also encourages participation from civil society and business.
In addition, October is also used to showcase the progress achieved in various transport programmes and projects. As a responsible corporate citizen, Mercedes-Benz South Africa has heeded the Department or Transport’s call by offering complimentary truck driver training to support the objectives of Transport Month.

The free driver training will not be limited to MBSA’s Daimler Trucks & Buses (DT&B) and Vans customers, but will be open to drivers of all commercial vehicles from all brands.
“Safety is one of the most crucial brand values of Daimler and for decades we have been a pioneer in safety and assistance systems. What sets us apart is our approach: we do not merely aim to reduce the effects of accidents, but we do all we can to prevent them from happening in the first place,” said Naeem Hassim, Head of FUSO Trucks Southern Africa.
“When it comes to our involvement in October Transport Month, we are using FleetBoard Professional Driver Training to provide our customers with tailor-made, high-quality training programmes. A well-trained and healthy driver is a safer driver. By producing safer drivers through or training, we are fitting in perfectly with the Transport Month’s theme of “Together We Move South Africa Forward,” said Hassim.
