A special partnership: MPREIS and MAN Truck & Bus Austria

  • The Tyrolese supermarket chain MPREIS Warenvertriebs GmbH banks on the vehicles and services of MAN Truck & Bus
  • New MAN TGX 26.500 and 26.460 trucks added to the MPREIS fleet
  • The long-standing relationship between the two companies is driven by quality and an active focus on customers

MPREIS Warenvertriebs GmbH from the Tyrol region of Austria has for many years put its faith in the vehicles and services of MAN Truck & Bus Austria for transporting goods to its more than 260 MPREIS supermarkets and more than 170 BAGUETTE café-bistros. End of 2017, it added new MAN TGX 26.500 6×2 and MAN TGX 26.460 6×2 trucks to its fleet, which now includes more than 40 MAN vehicles.

These trailers and semitrailer combinations cover almost 4.6 million kilometres a year for MPREIS. In the process, they supply the supermarkets and café-bistros of this tradition-rich, family-run Tyrolese company with foods such as meats, sausages and meat products, fresh bread, fruit, vegetables, and dairy products. To this end, they criss-cross all of Tyrol, East Tyrol, South Tyrol, Salzburg, Vorarlberg and Carinthia seven days a week, mainly in two shifts. Every year, about half a million metric tons of goods leave the MPREIS central warehouse in Völs near Innsbruck.

“In our business, we need a strong partner who is on hand 24 hours a day with help and advice, and can always be relied upon. For several decades now, that partner has been MAN Truck & Bus Austria,” says MPREIS Head of Logistics Thomas Thaler. MPREIS doesn’t only put its faith in MAN vehicles. It also takes advantage of an individually tailored full-service package that includes not just services for MAN vehicles but also the repair and maintenance of truck bodies, emergency response and much else besides. In this way, MPREIS benefits from comprehensive, straightforward and fast support, all from a single source.

MPREIS has adopted a multi-award-winning ecological and sustainability philosophy that spans all its corporate divisions and is naturally also reflected in its fleet. Low-emission Euro 6 vehicles already account for more than 90 percent of the MPREIS fleet. “We are extremely pleased that MAN supports our ecological approach and can offer us vehicles employing state-of-the-art technology,” Thaler says.

The latest additions at the logistics centre in Völs are four MAN TGX 26.500 6×2-2 BL, as well as two MAN TGX 26.460 6×2-2 BL, which were brought end of 2017 into the fleet. The 500 PS and 460 HP heavy-duty trucks with refrigerated bodies and lifting platforms have among other things the man TipMatic transmission, safety features such as the Emergency Brake Assist 2 (EBA2) as well as an extensive equipment in terms of interior and comfort for the drivers. Thomas Thaler explains why MPREIS decided in favour of the MAN TGX: “For our fleet, we place a particularly strong emphasis on performance and reliability, safety for our employees and other road users and – last, but not least – an attractive appearance. MAN offers us all of that.”

Incidentally, MPREIS demonstrated in a recent video production and photo shoot how well a special fleet can also convey a company’s image and function as a brand ambassador. In collaboration with MAN Innsbruck, the more than 40 MPREIS MAN trucks and their drivers took part in a Saturday team event, forming an impressive convoy against the backdrop of the Tyrolese mountains.
