Tomorrow South Africa is going to the polls for their sixth democratic elections. While the importance many attach to making their mark towards a democratic society is evidence of their strong views, there is another issue where South Africans and organisations should make a difference. This is in the promotion of road safety.
South Africa’s notoriety for a high crash and road fatality and injury rate is something each citizen is well aware of. The CEO of MasterDrive, Eugene Herbert, expands: “While government does play an instrumental role in reducing accident and fatality rates, organisations and individuals play just as large a role. It is for this reason that MasterDrive started the Fleet Safety Awards. The Awards aim to reward those fully committed to road safety, encourage others through the example they set and create motivation to strive for the level of road safety achieved by leaders in road safety.”
Consequently, when reflecting on leadership, take some time to enter the Fleet Safety Awards 2024 and consider what role you can personally play in an area you can make a difference. “You can enter yourself, your organisation, an employer, a driver or a truck stop. Each category brings attention to the commitment entrants make towards creating safer roads.
“Place your vote for yourself, organisation or another that demonstrates noteworthy achievements in road safety. By throwing your support behind a shining example of road safety, you play your role in encouraging others to emulate the proactive role they take in improving road safety in South Africa.”
The Fleet Safety Awards are a first-of-its-kind in Africa. “The Awards are a powerful and unique mechanism to motivate more individuals to promote road safety. The first step in extracting the most societal benefit from the Awards is by identifying fleets wholly committed to road safety.
“Use your power to vote for the person or organisation you believe embodies this. This will not only change the lives of the winners but also has the power to bring about tangible change to the tragic road fatality rate in South Africa,” says Herbert.
