Africa Road Safety Summit: Registration closing soon

MasterDrive is co-hosting the Africa Road Safety Summit this week. It is a hybrid event which drivers across Africa can attend. It is part of MasterDrive’s Transport Month initiative where focus is placed on road safety issues. Castrol, the leading lubricants company, have joined as headline partner.

The CEO of MasterDrive, Eugene Herbert, says the powerful line-up of speakers will address many issues essential to promoting road safety in South Africa and Africa as a whole. “Each speaker will share their knowledge and experience in advancing road safety across different environments.

“Speakers will address drivers across the continent and encourage playing one’s role in road safety through innovation, sustainability, collaboration and risk management. This year’s event brings together industry leaders, experts, and stakeholders from across the world to address critical aspects of road safety in Africa.”

The full, action-packed line-up includes:

  • Setting the stage: a vision for safer African roads by Portia Nkosi, EHOD: Health, Safety and Wellbeing at Vodacom.
  • Voice of business: Vodacom’s commitment to road safety by Matimba Mbungela, Chief Human Resources Officer at Vodacom Group.
  • Road safety strategy: mapping the future by Andrew Curtis, Global Manager at Vodaphone.
  • Beyond the purchase: maximising vehicle safety throughout its lifespan by Van Aardt Schoeman, Technical Service Operations Manager at Ford SA.
  • Hidden heroes: lubricants, safety and sustainability by Dr. Thandekile Madikane, DBA, Distributor Sales Manager at Castrol South-East Africa.
  • Urban and rural road safety: from bustling cities to dusty trails by Dave Cliff, Chairman at Global Road Safety Partnership (GRSP).
  • Electrifying change: NEVs as catalysts by Greg Cres, Principal Director, Automotive and eMobility.
  • Bridging continents: road safety from Australia to Africa by Dr Ingrid Johnston, CEO at Australasian College of Road Safety.
  • Digital innovation: AI in vehicles and predictive analytics by Norman Parkin, Founder and CEO at IOTI.MOBI.
  • Where rubber meets road: revolutionary approaches to tyre safety by Keith Phelps, Group Training Manager TBR Truck and Bus Technical Department at Dunlop.
  • Online driver behaviour monitoring and night driving safety by Johan Niemann, MD at Data Cube Analytics

Virtual and in-person attendees can also look forward to a panel discussion where several of the presenters will share information on bridging the road safety divide between urban hustle and rural realities.

“This will be addressed from various perspectives including how organisations should consider road safety challenges specific to their organisation, what role electric vehicles play in road safety as well as the role of vehicle advancement and driver training among others.”

The Africa Road Safety Summit will be the next adventure in MasterDrive’s eight-year history of marking Transport Month. “It will undoubtedly be as valuable and engrossing as what every event that has preceded it was. We look forward to hosting the Summit next week,” says Herbert.
