Hino 300-series continues to build on successful recipe of the past

The Dyna / Hino 300-Series has been among the leading model ranges in the SA medium truck market

The Hino 300-seriesThe current range of Hino 300-Series medium trucks has continued to build on the success laid by a range that stretches back to the introduction of the Dyna by Toyota SA in 1965.

The Dyna / Hino 300-Series has been among the leading model ranges in the SA medium truck market since it was launched here and the cumulative total sold in SA since 1965 is over 90 000 units.

The latest range of Hino 300-Series trucks was launched locally in May 2012 after having been previewed at the Johannesburg Truck and Bus Show in October 2011. SA was the first country outside Japan to receive this new model, signalling the importance attached to the SA market by Hino Motors Ltd of Japan.

The latest Hino 300 Series includes both wide and narrow cabs, as well as a crew cab derivative.

The latest Hino 300-Series line-up includes both wide and narrow cabs, as well as a crew cab derivative for the first time. There is a strong family resemblance to the 500- and 700-Series models in the styling and design of the cab.

It has a very high level of comfort, convenience and safety equipment too. The interior is completely restyled with many useful storage areas and a very attractive and legible instrument panel. Electric windows, air-conditioning and a radio/CD player are standard on all models in the range.

All models in the Hino 300-Series range use the same basic 4-litre turbodiesel engine with common rail technology and direct injection.

The Euro 3 Hino power units used in the previous Hino 300-Series range and with  even lower emissions.

They are improved versions of the Euro 3 Hino power units used in the previous Hino 300-Series range, but are even more economical with lower emission levels. The 614 has the 100kW (140hp) version of the engine.

This same variant of the N04C engine, which produces 392N.m of torque, is also fitted to the 714 and 814 derivatives, while the 815 and 915 models use a 110kW (150hp) version of the power unit.

The Dyna 150 4093 is powered by a normally-aspirated diesel engine developing 67kW of power and 192N.m of torque, matched to a five-speed manual gearbox. The big news when the current Hino 300-Series was launched was the introduction of a conventional six-speed automatic transmission in addition to 5- and 6-speed manual gearboxes.

The automatic transmission is available in the 815 LWB and 815 crew cab models and offers a lock-up function in all gears for more efficient operation. The 613, 714 and 814 models have the five-speed gearbox, with six speeds for the 915 LWB.
