Pilot Crushtec and Metso crush it with landmark milestone

Pilot Crushtec International, founded in 1990, has established itself as southern Africa’s leading supplier of mobile and semi-mobile crushing, screening, recycling, sand washing, stockpiling, compacting and material handling solutions. One of the keys to their success, apart from their world-class, locally manufactured products, is the choices they have made in international product selection.

Pilot Crushtec and Metso crush it with landmark milestone

One of the companies with whom Pilot Crushtec has had a very successful association is Metso. The Finnish company can trace its origins back over 150 years, and the brand has become globally recognised for its quality, customer service, and cost-effective solutions.

HP has become the industry standard for a range of aggregates and mining applications

2019 marks a particularly momentous milestone for Metso who celebrate the sale of the 10 000th HP Series cone crusher unit. The origin of the HP Series cone crusher can be tracked back to Milwaukee, USA in the early to mid-1980s. The technological breakthroughs by the Nordberg research program re-defined crushing performance and provided the basis for a new type of cone crusher introduced in 1989: the Nordberg High-Performance cone crusher series, today simply known as the HP.

“The HP is unquestionably one of Metso’s most widely used products,” says Pilot Crushtec sales and marketing director, Francois Marais. “Never content to maintain the status-quo, Metso continually evolves its technology to meet, and exceed, customer needs. This is precisely the reason why the HP has become the industry standard for a range of aggregates and mining applications.”

The last 30 years have proven the product’s capability

Having been released some 30 years ago sales have been steady throughout the products lifespan. The 10,000th HP cone crusher unit was handed over to the French aggregates and asphalt producer, and urban infrastructure development company Eurovia in a ceremony held at Metso’s Mâcon facility in France.

“I think the longevity of the HP stems from the fact that Metso has consistently invested in research and development over the years,” continues Marais. “They incorporate lessons learnt from their customer base all across the world, and refine their offering to deliver real solutions to real-world challenges. The last 30 years have proven the product’s capability; going forward customers can be assured that Metso will continue to innovate and, with the help of their clients, explore new development possibilities.”

Today, HP cone crushers are engineered and manufactured in Metso’s competence centre in Mâcon, France, with manufacturing facilities in Brazil, China and India. The HP is a versatile crusher, ideal for a wide range of fixed and mobile applications, varying from limestone to taconite and ballast production to manufactured sand.
