Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles presented the sixth generation of its successful Transporter range at the end of 2015. Tried and tested in South Africa over 65 years, the VW Transporter offers improved safety features, comfort, convenience and greater driving dynamics and is available with a range of body styles. The versatile Transporter pickup is the unsung hero of this range of workhorses.
A variety of choices
The VW Transporter pick-up can be ordered as a single or double cab variant. In addition, customers can delete the load bay area for customisation.
The pick-up is available only with a long wheelbase, which offers a sizeable cargo loading bed of 5,7m² for the single cab. The height of the aluminium side panels, which can be dropped down on every side, is 39cm.

Even with the spacious double cab, the Transporter provides a cargo bed of 4,2m². Apart from the storage compartment under the front passenger bench seat, this model offers another storage space under the rear bench seat too.
Engines to delight
The Transporter pick-up is available with a choice of three 2-litre turbo-charged diesel engines. The power output of these engines ranges from 75kW to 132kW. The 75kW engine is coupled to a five-speed manual gearbox as standard. The 103kW model is mated to a six-speed manual, and the 132kW comes with a 7-speed DSG (R) transmission. The 103kW engine is only offered with the four-wheel drive 4MOTION (R) system.
Safety a priority
Occupant safety has always been a cornerstone of the Volkswagen brand and the sixth-generation Transporter takes protection to a new level. Standard safety and convenience features include ABS, ESP and Hill Hold Control, and the newly-added Automatic Post-Collision Braking System (MTB).
VW’s Transporter range is offered with a standard two-year/unlimited km manufacturer warranty and three-year/ 60 000 km Automotion Service Plan. The retail price ranges from R321 300 to R442 400.
